Dude, did you see this document? It was sitting right here on this shelf with the used punk CD’s. This guy claims to be able to prove, a posteriori, that this song by the indie band Deerhunter, “Spring Hall Convert”; should be incorporated into the world of jam band classics. Look at all this stuff he’s rambling about. Let’s see, the liquefied guitar sound, ooh that’s kind of interesting, the hazy, ethereal vocal tone taken by the singer, hmm, that might be a point, the surreal use of immediate, well-profiled metaphor taken in the lyrics, listed as “So I woke up in a radio freeze” and “I had my face like the ocean”. He goes on to diagram that the song quickly descends into an ultimate “jam,” in a sense, administering a two- or three-minute segment wherein the only vocals are vague, non-discernible croons, and the unique, well-rounded chord progression repeats through thereafter, implying a sort of obscured state of mind married with the undeniable ability to avoid becoming stale or tedious in any regard. He posits that this constitutes bona fide psychedelia and that these scrappy stick figures from Atlanta, prominent in the bulbous second-wave indie rock boom of the George W. Bush era, should be given more credit as permanent bastions of rock music. He also even bandies the wild idea that they were the best band at 2009’s Lollapalooza iteration, and that, despite being a huge Velvet Underground and Papa Lou fan, he skipped Lou Reed’s set to see them. Well, I mean, were The Disco Biscuits there?
