Now, I have to admit that to an extent I like what the Beastie Boys did with Solid Gold Hits — the fact that it’s hip-hop dominated, the fact that it came out at a time which encapsulated all six of their great albums in timely fashion and the fact that the first three songs are “So What’cha Want”; “Brass Monkey” and “Ch-Check it out”… anyway today for some reason I’ve had the songs “Slow and Low” and “Remote Control” in my head, bent on the fact that these two cuts should be the part of any Beasties didactic. Should I tell the story again about how I once met a black dude at Asheville Brewing Company where they serve a magnificent jalapeño IPA and the dude’s favorite concert ever was the Beasties and mine (a white dude) was The Roots? Nah, I’ll spare it. 😉
